Personal Representatives

I'm Representing a Member

A personal representative (PR) can legally make health care decisions for a member. You don't need to be a member to be a PR. You might be a parent or legal guardian. If you would like to have online access to a member's account as their PR, we need to check your PR status first. Then you can set up an account and link it to theirs.

Here are a few things you need to have ready when you ask for a PR account:

  • The Member ID card for the member you represent
  • Documents that show you're allowed to make health care decisions for this member

These documents could be:

  • Birth or death certificate
  • Legal documents that prove you represent a member and can make health care decisions for them
  • Court orders
  • Other supporting documents

I'm Representing Another Member

Can I create an online account?

If you can legally make health care decisions for a member, you can set up an account to access their information. You can manage their plan using that account. You'll need to use your own account, with your own username and password, and not the member's account. You shouldn't create online accounts using someone else's name. We know this means extra steps for you. But it helps keep members' health information safe. If you're a member and you already have an online account, you can link your account to see health information for any members that you represent by clicking here.

I am not a BlueCare Tennessee member, but I represent a member. Can I set up a PR account online?

If you're a PR but not a member, you'll still be able to create an online account. That lets you manage your represented member's health plan online. A PR could be a parent, legal guardian or anyone who can legally make health decisions for a member. We'll need some documents from you to make sure you're the member's PR. After we've checked your PR status, we'll send you an e-mail with a link to register for an online account.

I'm a member with my own BlueCross or BlueCare Tennessee health plan, but I also represent another member. Will I be able to access all this data in one place online?

Yes. As a PR, you'll be able to see your info and the info of anyone you represent in one online account. This means you'll be able to log in to your online member account or mobile app and access all the data you're allowed to see.

I'm a Parent

I want to access my child's information online. Can I create an online account for them so I can manage their health information?

You can create an account for yourself and ask for PR permissions to access your child's health information online. You aren't allowed to create an account for yourself in your child's name. If your child is 13 years old or older, they can create their own account with their own username and password.
